Shildon Town Council has service responsibility for the following:

Civic Hall
The Civic Hall consists of a bar/lounge, restaurant and main hall. The bar/lounge and restaurant are open every evening and Sunday lunchtime for the provision of freshly cooked meals at competitive prices. The main hall is available for hire for formal functions such as wedding receptions, parties, Christenings, music events and community use.

Parks & Open Spaces
Full grounds maintenance service on all parks and open spaces owned by the Town Council.

Hackworth Park
Full grounds maintenance service, provision of 3 Children & Young Peoples play areas - Under 5's Play Area, Children’s Natural Play Area & Young Peoples Play area & Skate Park, bowling green, 2 tennis courts, football pitch, Orienteering Course, CCTV and Rest House community building - which is now occupied by Health Express (Community Interest Organisation).

West Road Cemetery and maintenance of St. Johns and All Saints closed churchyards.

Provision of 11 allotment sites throughout the town including 3 community gardens.

Public Toilets
The operation and maintenance of 2 public toilets located in Hackworth Park and Cheapside.

Bus Shelters
Provision of 25 bus shelters.

Christmas Illuminations including Town Square Christmas Tree and supporting volunteers with the Christmas Eve Santa's Visit to Shildon

Community Events - Including Fun4All events, Christmas Procession, Christmas Tree Switch-On & Christmas Entertainment at the Civic Hall, Horticultural Show, Civic Events including the Civic Unity Carol Service, SCYPAN Children & Young Peoples Awards Night, Children & Young Peoples Art Exhibition and Mayoral Events

Dog Bag Scheme
Shildon Town Council currently has available FREE Dog Bags to local residents - The Town Council want to promote responsible dog ownership with the aim of keeping the town's park, green spaces and wider areas clear of these unsightly and unwanted deposits.

Durham County Council’s Neighbourhood Wardens will investigate and take the necessary action against the person if a pavement or verge is badly fouled and can arrange for the mess to be cleaned up and/or arrange for an officer to patrol the area in an effort to catch the offenders.

It is an offence, under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, if you do not clean up your dog's waste.

You could be issued with a fixed penalty notice of £80. If taken to court, you could face a maximum fine of £1,000.
