Local councils form the most local level of local government and have an overall responsibility for the well-being of their local neighbourhood.

Shildon Town Council represents the local community and delivers services to meet local needs and improve the life of residents.  The Town Council is made up of 17 Councillors who meet each month to make decisions on the work and direction of the Council.
