Councillor Shirley Quinn was elected to the role of Shildon Town Mayor at the Town Council Meeting on the 10th April 2017.

I was born and raised d in Shildon, lived in the town for the majority of my life and attended Timothy Hackworth School and then went on to Sunnydale comprehensive.

I had the opportunity to serve as Consort to the Mayor in 2013/4 when my husband was Mayor, this role inspired me to want to hold the position of Mayor, I supported Peter in his fundraising activities and attended events across the county flying the flag for Shildon, developing links, friendships and sharing best practices in this ever-changing world.

I was elected onto the Town Council in my own right in 2013 and was unopposed in my seat this year. Councillor Peter Quinn and myself Councillor Shirely Quinn are the first married couple who have both hold the Office of Mayor, I am also elected onto the County Council this year which will provide new challenges and understanding of how the County Council reaches decisions and implements them on the ground.

In my role as Mayor this year I intend to promote Shildon to a wider audience as well as all the usual Civic duties that are already booked in my calendar this year including; Remembrance Sunday, The Civic Carol Service and Christmas Procession. I also intend to have my own Civic Service, at St Thomas’s Church and an ‘At Home Event with the Mayor’, Quiz night, entertainment fund raises and a Civic Dinner as well darts, dominos and race night all in aid of raising lots of money for my chosen charities: Shildon Branch of the Royal British Legion, a new services which will be opening up shortly – ‘The Sanctuary’ and also I intend to hold an event to celebrate the older members of our community, bringing them together in friendship or rekindling old relationships.

If you wish to book me to attend an event, visit your organisation, or if you just want to contact me, my email address is
