I was born in West Auckland in 1971 to fabulous parents who encouraged good manners and a desire to learn in both myself, and my late brother. I attended Copeland Rd. Junior School and I have many happy memories from those days. Staindrop Comprehensive school gave me an exceptional education with great attentive and knowledgeable teachers.

I first moved to Shildon when I was around 14 years old and it soon became home . I’ve made some great friendships here over the years, with people  that I consider like family. Initially after leaving school my career was in retail, then hospitality, while raising my son Tyler who went to Timothy Hackworth School.

After relocating to the Isle of Wight, a beautiful place, I pursued a career in psychology and gained a number of qualifications, including an Honours Degree.

I missed the North East, so returned home to Shildon in 2002 and I haven’t budged since! In fact I still live in the same house with my partner Kevin. My mum lives in the town as does my son and his family. I’ve recently become a grandmother or nanny Lulu to Darron.

I spent around 2 years working with the Youth Justice Panel for Restorative Justice, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I then retrained and attained a Dips in Counselling from Bishop Auckland College and began as a student, then as a Counsellor at South Durham Counselling Service. In 2008 I became the Counselling Manager; subsequently the Service won 2 awards, and was deemed a specialist service by the local Clinical Commissioning Group.

In 2017 I returned to private practice as a Severe Trauma Counsellor, as Mental Health and its promotion is very important to me, it’s a vocation.  I volunteer 3 days a week at The Sanctuary@ Shildon, which is a free to access Counselling Charity, and also with the award winning Checkpoint programme with Durham Constabulary, which works to reduce re-offending.

My hobbies include watching motorcycle racing; music, anything from classical to hard rock. I’m a voracious reader and always have a number of books on the go. I love animals and along with a black cat I have 2 dogs; a German Shepherd and a Belgian Malinois who take up a lot of my time. I love having a meal or a glass of wine with friends and watching live bands.

I’ve learned a lot during my time as a Town Councillor for the Thickley Ward and plan to work towards making Shildon a better place to live and work, albeit in a small way, during my time as Mayor.
