Fun4All Partnership Event 2017 Update
Posted on August 8 2017
Thank you Shildon, for coming out and supporting Shildon Town Council’s Fun4All Partnership Event 2017.
This year’s event was kindly opened by Town Councillor and Mayor Shirley Quinn, following her address were performances by the Young People from CATS theatre group. Next up were the Jack Drum Runaway Samba Group who really got the crowd going.
This year’s event has attracted larger crowds with visitors spending more time at the event. There were lots of things for the family to see, try and do!
From snakes to alpacas, climbing wall to samba drumming, trampolines, football, boot camp and the skate completion. There were also demonstrations from Sunnydale Leisure Centre – to get you fit, Dot & Zooky - circus skills who were bubbletastic ,much to the delight of our younger attendees. We saw birds of prey flying high and low over the event and we got up close and personal with them. Darlington Bee keepers Association were there to help to spread positive messages about becoming Bee Friendly with free seed giveaways.
Shildon Police and the Rapid Pursuit Unit Interceptor along with Fire Engine from White Watch, Bishop Auckland Community Fire Station. Were all on hand to provide advice and guidance to local resident, as well as providing opportunities for kids big and small to try out the sirens?
We had history with the re-enactors, you could work out with Boot Camp, have a kick about with mini kicks by Foundation of Light, parklife provided lots of games for children to enjoy and delivered the skate competition. The event was well supported by local community, voluntary organisations that were all on hand to raise money for charity. There were giveaways for the under fives who had the opportunity to pick up age appropriate reading books from One Point, Newton Aycliffe/Ferryhill, who signed up 140 people on the day and gave out over 250 free reading books for children age 0-5 years. This hopefully will support our families to support their children’s literacy, speech and language skills as they develop.
Shildon Town Council would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone involved, local partners, food vendors, traders, table toppers, local voluntary & community sector organisations, Shildon Alive who provided the fruit and crisps for the snack packs and Health Express and Sainsbury’s for the donation of water.
Special thanks go to Town Councillor and Town Mayor Shirley Quinn, Town and County Councillor Henry Nicholson who finically supported the event, enabling the Jack Drum Run Away Samba Group to attend and entertain and thanks also to Councillor Christine Wilson -West Auckland for supporting financially to enable the Crazy Creatures to be present to provide local children with the opportunity to get close to exotic animals including Boa Constrictor, Corn snake, tarantula’s and many more unusual species. A wonderful event topped off by fantastic weather for all to enjoy.
