SCYPAN Children & Young Peoples Awards took place on Wednesday 18th October at the Shildon Civic Hall. This year saw 28 Nominations, including 4 groups and 22 individual, the most Nominated Category was ‘Can Do’ -with 10 individual nominations.

The evening was very well attended, with SCYPAN Guests, nominators, nominees plus their guests and representation from the Community Safety Group, who have kindly sponsored  the SCYPAN  trophies for the next three years. Carol Fletcher was on hand to present along with the guest Judges and Town Mayor Councillor Shirley Quinn. Sponsorship was also provided by the Youth Theatre Variety Show, Livin, Shildon Town Council & Darlington Chair Cover Hire.

The evening got off to a wonderful start with a performance by Thornhill Primary School Choir followed by CATS Youth Theatre Group.

It was then down to the business at hand, Derrick Robinson compared the evening and got the presentations under way.

Well done to all those who were nominated and congratulations to all the inspirational winners.

This year saw a new special category the ‘Outstanding Contribution Award’; this went to Derrick Robinson for his outstanding contribution to the children and young people of Shildon. Inspiring for over 20 years, Derrick has supporting the theatre groups including Tearaways and also formed and runs the CAT’s & TYKE’s theatre groups working tirelessly not only for his own groups but has also supported many other local organisations.

We hope that everyone who attended the Awards had an enjoyable evening and we look forward to again celebrating the amazing children and young people of Shildon who through their own personal dedication, determination and achievement were celebrated.
